王若琳 - Let's Start From Here

I found this CD when I was shopping around Taipei, Taiwan. The album, Let’s Start From Here was featured in the store, so I took a listen, and I was Pretty impressed. The voice of 王若琳 (Joanna Wang) was absolutely beautiful, to a point where it was a bit commercial — not necessary a bad thing. Nevertheless, the music presented here managed to captures senses of smooth and funky jazz. Instead of using big orchestra, sound samples, and lots of other noise that usually occupies a pop or rock album in Taiwan these days, 王若琳 instead opt for a small band, presenting a more intimate, and almost romantic take on jazz and pop — a rarity these days.

Mindless update 2

Alright, I can go for another few entries displaying photos and make semi-smart and witty commentaries about the rest of my adventures in Taiwan and Hong Kong. But I won’t. Instead, you can check out the rest of the Taiwan photos here, and the Hong Kong set here. Hong Kong was particularly interesting, since it’s been a while since I’ve been to Hong Kong, and I don’t even remember most of my adventure the first time I went more than ten years ago. It’s mostly touristy stuff, and I hope the next time I visit Hong Kong I’ll be able to explore areas that features more local than tourist. How do you tell you’re in a touristy area? Just look around and count the number of Nikon and Canon dSLRs clickin’ away, if you see more than ten, chances are, you are in a heavy touristy area. I thought I was in camera heaven when I visited Victoria Peak and the Tian Tan Buddha.

Week long trip to Taiwan 4

三孤將

Ahh, finally an update. Sorry it took so long. Things have been pretty hectic thus far, and has prevented me from having the time to sit down and go through all the photos I’ve took, and really, without photos, there really isn’t any point in talking about my trip to Taiwan. Let’s get started, shall we?

Vacay Update 0

So I really haven’t update on what’s going on in the past week. I know someone out there reads this, so I apologize to you. Nevertheless, I was planning on doing a lot of photo entries, until my plan was foiled… by the different plugs they have here in Hong Kong. Apparently they’ve never heard of the ground prong, and well, there’s just no way I can plug my damn laptop in to the outlet, and the battery won’t last me too long when I’m photoshopping 200+ photos.

So I guess the next time I update will be when I’m back in Toronto, which is just a few days away (29th, to be exact). I am definitly excited to be home after a month of hiatus, the big city feels awesomely lonely sometimes.

Anyways, I’m pretty tired, feeling a “food coma” after a fantastic meal at the R66 revolving restaurant at the Hopewell Centre in Hong Kong. The food was okay, but the view was fantastic, I guess people usually go up for the view rather then looking for a great tasting meal.

More adventures tomorrow, last day in HK as well as the conclusion of my trip, it had better be an epic day… See you Toronto, on the 29th.
