Sara Bareilles - Little Voice

I’ve been listening to Sara Barellies’ latest album Little Voice (released July 3rd, 2007), for over a few weeks now, and I can say I’m fully addicted. I’ve caught myself listening to a really catchy pop tune while I was shopping around for groceries a few weeks ago, and so I stopped and listened until the Radio announcer told me just who the heck this artist was. Turns out it was Berellies and her single “Love Song”.

I must say I was plenty surprised and impressed with the entire album. At first you’d think she’s just another homage to the Fiona Apple image — soft voice, pretty face, piano accompaniment, and pop-rock. But I must say Berellies were able to hold her own with her not so Little Voice. “Love Song” presents a full four minutes and nineteen seconds of pure pop bliss that’s perfect for that drive down the road. “Vegas” vamps up the sultry vibe, amplifying Sara’s soulful voice longing for something bigger and better. “Bottle it Up” features your staple edgy soft-rock, “Come Round Soon” is a very catchy blue-eyed soul piece in the style of Maroon 5, and “Between the Lines” creates a real nice blend between pop and soul.

“Love On the Rock”, as the title may suggest, provides a very sexy R&B groove that just makes you want to dance, “Morning Side” is yet another well done pop song for the drive on the way back, “Many the Miles”, “City”, and “Gravity” provides the softer, un-plugged side of things, focusing more on the vocals and piano, and finally, “Fairytale”, a modern and feministic twist on those old fairytales, some smart lyrics.

Perhaps the best thing about album is that no two tracks are really alike. Each offering a nice blend between pop, jazz, soul, and R&B, probably one of the best pop album I’ve personally heard in a long time. I would highly recommend someone picking this one up.

Sara Bareilles – Love Song

Head under water
And they tell me to breathe easy for a while
The breathing gets harder, even I know that
You made room for me but it’s too soon to see
If I’m happy in your hands

I’m unusually hard to hold on to
Blank stares at blank pages
No easy way to say this
You mean well, but you make this hard on me
I’m not gonna write you a love song
’cause you asked for it
’cause you need one, you see

I’m not gonna write you a love song
’cause you tell me it’s
Make or breaking this
If you’re on your way
I’m not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leaving I’m gonna need a better
Reason to write you a love song today

I learned the hard way
That they all say things you want to hear
And my heavy heart sinks deep down under you and
Your twisted words,
Your help just hurts
You are not what I thought you were
Hello to high and dry
Convinced me to please you
Made me think that I need this too
I’m trying to let you hear me as I am

I’m not gonna write you a love song
’cause you asked for it
’cause you need one, you see
I’m not gonna write you a love song
’cause you tell me it’s
Make or breaking this
If you’re on your way
I’m not gonna write you to stay
If all you have is leaving I’m gonna need a better
Reason to write you a love song today

Promise me that you’ll leave the light on
To help me see with daylight, my guide, gone
’cause I believe there’s a way you can love me
Because I say
I won’t write you a love song
’cause you asked for it
’cause you need one, you see

I’m not gonna write you a love song
’cause you tell me it’s make or breaking this
Is that why you wanted a love song
’cause you asked for it
’cause you need one, you see
I’m not gonna write you a love song
’cause you tell me it’s make or breaking this
If you’re on your way
I’m not gonna write you to stay
If your heart is nowhere in it
I don’t want it for a minute
Babe, I’ll walk the seven seas when I believe that
There’s a reason to
Write you a love song today

Sara Bareilles – Vegas

Gonna sell my car and go to Vegas
‘Cause somebody told me
That’s where dreams would be
Gonna sell my car and go to Vegas
Finally see my name upon the Palace marquis

Gonna quit my job and move to New York
‘Cause somebody told me that’s where
Dreamers should go
Gonna quit my job and move to New York
And tattoo my body with every Broadway show.

Listen up now honey, you’re gonna be sorry
Can’t get out from under a sky that is falling
And you say
No fame no money I’m nobody
The way I’m running has sure got me down
On my knees.
But next stop, Vegas please.
Gotta get to Vegas
Can you take me to Vegas?

Gonna sell my house and cross the border
‘Cause somebody told me dreams live in Mexico
Gonna sell my house I got to lose ten pounds
And cross the border
And make sweet love upon the white sandy shore.

Listen up now honey, you’re gonna be sorry
Can’t get out from under a sky that is falling
And you say
No fame no money I’m nobody
The way I’m running has sure got me down
On my knees.
But next stop, Vegas please.

It’s always just around the corner or you’re
On your way to somewhere
That is bigger or better…
If you could only get there
It’s never your fault you can’t start your
Own winning streak
But I’d hate to lose you to the fortune you seek

I’m gonna lose my mind and sail the ocean.
‘Cause somebody told me there were
Cherry blue skies
I’m gonna fix my mind with a final destination
And have a deep sleep upon a sweet dream
I’ll never realize…no

Listen up now honey, you’re gonna be sorry
Can’t get out from under a sky that is falling
And you say
No fame no money I’m nobody
The way I’m running has sure got me down
On my knees.
Next stop, Vegas please.
Can you take me to Vegas?
